When do we strike and for how long? SEIU-UHW members have voted by a margin of 92% to strike against unfair labor practices at Sharp Healthcare. We will strike for five days from November 18–November 22.

Do I need to picket to support the ULP strike? We need all SEIU-UHW members on the picket line to stand strong together. This is particularly important at shift changes and at times when we are holding a press conference or rally of solidarity.

Do I need to tell my supervisor I will not be reporting to work on ULP strike days? Should I call out? No, SEIU-UHW will give notification to management 10-days in advance of a ULP strike so you do not need to call out. Your supervisor may ask you if you are going on ULP strike, but you do not need to confirm anything with them. However, your bargaining team recommends a YES answer!

Can I be disciplined for participating in a ULP strike? No. A ULP strike is a protected activity, and it is illegal for an employer to even threaten an employee with discipline. Please report any abuse by management immediately to a bargaining team member or SEIU-UHW representative.

Can non-union members join our picket line? Yes, non-union members can join our picket line on their own time. Other hospital workers can also lend support (including RNs and doctors) before work, during breaks, and after work.

What time do we walk out? The ULP strike starts at 5:30am Monday, November 18. All night shift workers are covered by the strike notice and should walkout at this time.

Will we be paid for joining the ULP strike? For members who complete a minimum of 18 hours in strike shifts, we will be providing a $400 ULP strike stipend. Benefits will be paid out the week after the ULP strike concludes.

Will there be food on the ULP strike line? Yes, SEIU-UHW will provide water, sodas, lunch and snacks to supporters in attendance and can accommodate special dietary needs if informed in advance.

Can I bring my kids to the picket line? Yes! It will be a peaceful picket line with music, chanting and sign waving. We encourage you to bring kids, family members and friends to join us in support.
