[Nov. 16, 2016] RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Healthcare workers won their nearly three-year fight to improve patient care at Parkview Community Hospital, after the U.S. Court of Appeals today upheld their vote to join a union. The workers called on Parkview to quickly begin negotiations on a contract to strengthen patient care and improve jobs.

“Parkview management has already wasted three years filing frivolous appeals to avoid sitting down with us to make our hospital as good as it can be,” said Tracy Clark, a respiratory therapist at Parkview Community Hospital. “Now, it’s time to put all of that behind us and begin working together for our patients and our community.”

In an email sent today to employees, Parkview Community Hospital CEO Steve Popkin acknowledged the court’s ruling and said, “Parkview’s appeal was denied. Therefore, the union election is now certified.”

More than 500 Parkview Community Hospital workers voted in March 2014 to join SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW); however, hospital management refused to recognize the union, forcing workers to file multiple unfair labor practice charges to require the hospital recognize the clear results of the election.

Founded in 1958, Parkview Community Hospital is a non-profit facility with 193 beds.
