Despite recording a net income of $6.4 billion in 2020 and $2 billion so far in 2021, and paying numerous executives million-dollar salaries, healthcare giant Kaiser Permanente announced on April 30 that it will eliminate 231 caregiver positions at several facilities across Northern California, leaving workers and their families devastated. Perhaps most dangerous for patients, many of these employees are frontline caregivers, responsible for monitoring patients’ vital signs, hygiene, transportation and safety.
