#PlatesofLove Campaign is Coordinating Much-Needed Food Relief for Employees and Their Families
LOS ANGELES – Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW), in partnership with Big Sunday, Ordermark, and DoorDash, announced a new campaign today to raise funds to support essential hospital workers who are putting in long hours and risking their health to serve patients during the COVID-19 crisis.
The employees include respiratory therapists, ER technicians, nursing assistants, hospital cleaning staff, dietary workers, and transporters. Funds raised will be used to provide DoorDash gift cards to these workers and their families during the COVID-19 surge. The gift cards can be used to order food for delivery or takeout from restaurants on DoorDash. All donations to the initiative’s GoFundMe campaign are tax deductible.

“Receiving this certificate during this difficult time has given some light during this time of darkness,” said Joanna Ramirez, a surgery scheduler in the oncology department at Dignity Health Medical Foundation in Sacramento. “Having survived COVID-19 and not being able to cook a nice hot meal for the family was very difficult. Now I can surprise them with their favorite meal. It warms my heart to know that in times of need you can rely on others.”

*For every ten $100 gift cards purchased through this campaign, DoorDash will donate an additional $100 gift card through May 31, 2020.
