FACEBOOK LIVE TODAY: Federal Aid for Caregivers
Check out our special Facebook Live session today, Thurs., April 9 at 5:30 p.m.
U.S. Congressman Ted Lieu will join SEIU-UHW members to discuss the latest COVID-19 issues, including how the new emergency relief laws benefit us and our families.
And if you missed Tuesday’s Facebook Live session, check it out here. Associate General Counsel for SEIU Monica Guizar joined us to lay out crucial resources available to immigrant communities during this pandemic.
HOUSING ALERT: Hotel Rooms for Healthcare Workers
Today Governor Newsom announced a new program to provide hotel vouchers and stipends for healthcare workers, including those who live far from their worksites and those who have been exposed to or tested positive for COVID-19. Eligibility and stipend amounts are partially based on income. Click here starting tomorrow, April 10, to begin the application process.
WINNING FOR WORKERS
This crisis is showing us the concrete ways union strength matters in our facilities. Our leaders across Dignity Health have successfully moved management on a number of safety measures:
- Installing plexiglass protective barriers in nutrition services and other patient-facing areas statewide
- allowing more and more of us to work from home to avoid infection,
- and winning the right to bring our own masks from home.
As previously reported, Kaiser members have won these safety measures as well. We also told management that we cannot have “business as usual” labor relations during this crisis – and we were able to reach an agreement that protects our rights while allowing all hospital staff to focus on fighting this pandemic. This agreement includes pausing attendance reviews, less punitive disciplinary policies, and greater shift flexibility to accommodate school closures.
If you have safety concerns at your facility that management is refusing to address, contact your SEIU-UHW steward or representative.
