VIDEO: Face Shields Made with LOVE

Last week we shared the story of our SEIU-UHW brothers and sisters in the Bay Area who are making face shields to help with our PPE shortage. This week they have a special video message for all of us . . .

700,000 Workers Demand PPE NOW!

The 700,000 of us in SEIU across California just issued this powerful letter to Governor Newsom urging the state to take every measure possible to get us the masks, gloves, face shields, and other essentials necessary to lead our state’s COVID-19 fight.

But we can’t stop at the state level. Click here to demand that Congress and the Trump administration get us the PPE we need.

PPE: We’re Taking Action

At SEIU-UHW, we’re doing everything we can to secure much-needed PPE — including isolation gowns, face shields, N95 and other masks, hand sanitizer, and sanitizing wipes:

  • Production: We set up meetings between two U.S. manufacturing associations and all the major hospital systems to spur the creation of PPE in the U.S. — and we’ve connected nearly 100 different suppliers of PPE to hospitals.
  • Donations: We’ve collected and distributed thousands of donated masks and other PPE to hospitals across the state. Let’s keep going: Donate here — and share that page widely!
  • Publicizing: We’re getting the story of the PPE crisis out with heartfelt videos of healthcare workers talking about the shortage.

HOUSING ALERT: Ban on Evictions & Foreclosures

On April 6, the California Judicial Council adopted an emergency court rule that stops all evictions and foreclosures in the state for the duration of the COVID-19 emergency (other than those necessary to protect public health and safety).

This new court rule will apply until 90 days after the governor lifts the state of emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
